A clump of brain cells

I used to think the brain is a tube that is twisted and turned into a structure that resembles a shiitake mushroom or a 馬仔 (sachima).

It is dense. It is granular.

But no. It turns out the brain is more like a bunch of enoki mushrooms or a 龍鬚糖 (dragon’s beard candy).

It is tangled. It is intricate.

My mind was blown when I first saw the picture of an axon map. Axons are like optical fibers: They transport signals throughout the nervous system.
